In "Spite Marriage," the unimpressive man, played by the iconic silent film star Buster Keaton, is an actor who is infatuated with a popular actress (Dorothy Sebastian). When he accidentally saves her life, she agrees to marry him out of gratitude. Unbeknownst to him, she is actually in love with another man, a wealthy playboy (Edward Earle), who is now engaged to another woman.
The actress decides to use the marriage to make her old flame jealous, and she continues to see him behind her new husband's back. The husband is completely oblivious to her true feelings and is genuinely in love with her. However, he slowly begins to realize the truth and tries to win her over with some comedic mishaps along the way.
The plot takes a comedic turn as the husband's attempts to win over his wife become increasingly desperate and outrageous. Ultimately, the playboy realizes he is still in love with the actress and breaks off his engagement, leaving the door open for her to pursue a genuine relationship with her husband.
The film is a classic romantic comedy with a blend of slapstick humor and heartfelt moments, showcasing Buster Keaton's comedic talents and the charm of early Hollywood cinema.
