As vagrants Stanley and Oliver find refuge in the luxurious mansion, they realize that the mansion belongs to Colonel Buckshot, a wealthy and strict man who has a close relationship with Judge Beaumont. Unbeknownst to the boys, the mansion is actually being used as a safe house for counterfeiters led by Slippery Sid, who is operating within Colonel Buckshot's organization.
While exploring the mansion, Stanley and Oliver accidentally stumble upon the counterfeit operation and witness Slippery Sid and his gang in action. Panicked, the boys try to quietly make their way out of the mansion but accidentally set off an alarm, alerting the criminals to their presence.
Desperate to escape, Stanley and Oliver devise a plan to disguise themselves as Colonel Buckshot's servants to avoid detection. However, their plan is quickly discovered by Sid and his gang, who decide to use the boys as a bargaining chip for their escape.
