Now and Then is a 1995 coming-of-age film that follows the lives of four childhood friends: Teeny, Chrissy, Samantha, and Roberta. The story takes place in the present day, where the friends reunite as adults to reminisce about their shared past.

The majority of the film is set in the summer of 1970 when the four girls were just twelve years old. Through a series of flashback sequences, the audience is transported to the idyllic town of Shelby, Indiana, where the girls spend their days riding bikes, exploring the neighborhood, and embarking on various adventures.

As the summer unfolds, each of the girls undergoes personal growth and faces individual challenges. Teeny, the group's fashion-forward and overly confident member, discovers her love for boys and becomes obsessed with a young movie star. Chrissy, the sweet and innocent member, experiences her first period and deals with the pressures of becoming a woman. Samantha, the intelligent and quirky one, struggles with her parents' divorce and forms a close bond with the mysterious and reclusive Crazy Pete. Lastly, Roberta, the tomboyish and rebellious member, confronts her fear of her mother's death-bed prophecy and finds solace in the town's protector, Officer P.J.

Amid their personal journeys, the girls also confront larger issues within their community. They stumble upon a small cemetery inhabited by the ghost of a young boy named Johnny, who died tragically during the Civil War. Through the girls' intervention, they uncover the truth about Johnny's death and work to give him a proper burial, providing closure to his spirit.

Throughout the film, the bonding experiences between the four friends are prominent. They share secrets, deal with bullies, and explore their burgeoning individual identities. The group constantly supports and stands up for one another, forging a deep and everlasting friendship. Back in the present day, their reunion allows them to reflect on the impact their childhood experiences had on their adult lives.

Now and Then presents a nostalgic and heartwarming tale of friendship, growth, and the enduring power of childhood bonds.
