In the film "The Miracle of Morgan's Creek," the small-town girl is Trudy Kockenlocker, a lively, vivacious young woman living in the fictional town of Morgan's Creek during World War II. Trudy has an affectionate and sentimental nature, particularly towards American soldiers who are heading to war.

One evening, just before a platoon of soldiers departs for the war, Trudy attends a farewell party held in their honor. The party turns out to be wild and raucous, filled with revelry and drinking. The next morning, Trudy wakes up with a terrible hangover and a realization that she has somehow gotten married the previous night. However, she cannot recall the name or even the face of her now-husband.

As the news of Trudy's mysterious marriage spreads throughout the town, chaos ensues. Trudy's strict and patriotic father, Constable Edmund Kockenlocker, becomes increasingly concerned about the situation. He demands Trudy to reveal the identity of her husband, but she genuinely has no recollection. The town's gossipy citizens begin to draw their own conclusions, speculating about who the anonymous soldier might be.

In the midst of the confusion, Trudy discovers that she is pregnant, adding even more urgency to the search for her husband. To avoid the scandal of being an unwed mother or divorcing an unknown spouse, she persuades her best friend, Norval Jones, to stand in as her husband, posing as the long-lost soldier. Norval, who has a longstanding crush on Trudy, reluctantly agrees to keep up the charade.

As the comedy unfolds, Norval tries to manage the various challenges that arise from his new role, from convincing Trudy's family and the townspeople of his legitimacy to dealing with the military authorities and their interest in Trudy's case. Meanwhile, Trudy's feelings for Norval start to evolve, and she begins to understand the true nature of love amidst the chaos.

Throughout the film, writer-director Preston Sturges infuses the story with his signature wit and satire, providing a humorous and satirical commentary on various themes such as patriotism, small-town life, and societal expectations. "The Miracle of Morgan's Creek" is a classic screwball comedy that explores the absurdity of wartime romances and the unpredictable nature of life.
