In the film, Fool discovers that the landlords, known as the Robesons, have been keeping a group of children locked up in the basement. These children are physically mutilated and mentally traumatized, forced to live in squalor and subjected to sadistic punishments if they disobey the Robesons' rules. It is revealed that the Robesons have been kidnapping children from the neighborhood and using them as slaves to do their bidding.

As Fool navigates the house, he also encounters the Robesons' daughter, Alice, who has been kept isolated from the outside world and treated as a prisoner by her parents. Despite the danger, Fool decides to help Alice escape and take down the Robesons once and for all.

Throughout the film, there are themes of social inequality, abuse of power, and the struggles of marginalized communities. The People Under the Stairs is a blend of horror, comedy, and social commentary, exploring the darkness that can lurk beneath the surface of seemingly ordinary and affluent neighborhoods.
