Beethoven follows the heartwarming story of the Newton family, consisting of father George, mother Alice, and their three children: the responsible and adventurous Ted, the aspiring actress Emily, and the mischievous but lovable teenager Ryce. They live in a comfortable suburban home, yet their lives feel incomplete.

One day, their lives take an unexpected turn when a small, adorable puppy wanders into their home. The children instantly bond with the playful and loyal puppy, whom they name Beethoven. However, as Beethoven starts growing rapidly into a giant St. Bernard, chaos ensues, turning the once serene household into a whirlwind of messes and destruction.

While the family adores Beethoven, Alice finds it challenging to manage the boisterous dog and considers giving him away. However, the children convince their parents to let Beethoven stay, emphasizing the invaluable love and joy he brings to their lives.

Meanwhile, as Beethoven becomes larger and harder to handle, the Newtons' friendly and optimistic neighbors, the Sedgwicks, try to convince the family to enter Beethoven into a dog show. George, who initially views Beethoven as nothing more than a nuisance, starts seeing the potential in him and agrees to give it a try. They hope that the dog show and a possible cash prize could help them pay off their mounting debts.

However, not everyone has Beethoven's best interests at heart. Enter Dr. Varnick, the local veterinarian, who is secretly involved in unethical and cruel dog experiments. When he discovers Beethoven's impressive size, he sets his sights on the St. Bernard for his nefarious experiments.

Concerned for Beethoven's safety, the Newton family soon uncovers Dr. Varnick's true intentions. Fueled by their love for Beethoven, the family goes on a mission to rescue him before he falls victim to the evil vet's cruel experiments.

With the help of their resourceful and quirky Uncle Morris, who is an experienced dog trainer, the Newtons devise a plan to save Beethoven and expose Dr. Varnick's dark deeds. In a heart-pounding climax, the family confronts the villainous vet and his henchmen, putting everything on the line to protect their beloved Beethoven.

In the end, the Newton family not only saves Beethoven from harm but also realizes the true value of love, loyalty, and the importance of cherishing every member of the family. Beethoven, now considered a hero, remains a cherished member of the Newton household, bringing endless joy and happiness to their lives.
