"The Dream Team" follows a group of four mentally ill patients who are taken on an adventurous and unexpected journey.

Henry, a paranoid schizophrenic played by Michael Keaton, believes he is a doctor and takes on the role of the group's leader. He is accompanied by Billy, a compulsive neat freak portrayed by Christopher Lloyd, who suffers from pathological fears, such as exposure to direct sunlight. Albert, played by Peter Boyle, is a former advertising executive who believes he is Jesus Christ but is emotionally scarred from a traumatic incident. Finally, there is Jack, portrayed by Stephen Furst, a man with uncontrollable anger issues.

The film begins in a psychiatric hospital where the four patients find a momentary respite from their institutional lives by playing ping-pong in the hospital rec room. However, due to a series of mishaps, they end up witnessing a murder committed by a corrupt police officer who works at the hospital. Fearing for their lives, the group decides to escape.

As they make their way through the streets of New York, the four patients encounter various challenges and hilarious situations. Their unique personalities and mental illnesses bring both humor and unpredictability to their interactions with the outside world. Along the way, they unintentionally find themselves involved in other crimes, getting mistaken for criminals by both the police and real criminals.

Throughout the film, the group's bond strengthens as they rely on each other's peculiarities and quirks to navigate their way through the chaotic city. They also find moments of solace and self-discovery amidst the insanity of their situation. Along with their escapades, the characters confront their own demons, confrontations that were never addressed in their group therapy sessions.

Meanwhile, a determined but somewhat bumbling psychiatrist, Dr. Weitzman, portrayed by Dennis Boutsikaris, discovers that his patients are missing. He is torn between finding them and ensuring their safety while dealing with the hospital administration's attempt to cover up the murder they stumbled upon.

As the group evades both the police and the actual criminals, they eventually uncover evidence that can expose the corrupt officer and reveal the truth about the murder. In a suspenseful climax, they confront the real culprits, clear their names, and bring justice to the hospital.

"The Dream Team" is a heartwarming and comedic journey of self-discovery, independence, and the power of friendship, as these four unlikely heroes ultimately triumph over their own mental challenges and the obstacles thrown their way.
