In the movie Murder by Death, Lionel Twain, a wealthy and eccentric millionaire, challenges the world's greatest detectives to solve a murder mystery. The five detectives invited are:

1. Sam Diamond (inspired by fictional detective Sam Spade): A tough and cynical private investigator known for his street smarts.
2. Sidney Wang (based on Charlie Chan): A wise and intelligent Chinese detective, known for his use of proverbs.
3. Jessica Marbles (parody of Miss Marple): An elderly and astute English sleuth with a sharp eye for details.
4. Milo Perrier (modeled after Hercule Poirot): A Belgian detective famous for his meticulous attention to detail and his eccentric behavior.
5. Dick and Dora Charleston (spoofing Nick and Nora Charles from The Thin Man series): Glamorous and witty socialite detectives, they are known for their charm and quick wit.

As the detectives arrive at Twain's mansion, they meet the blind butler, Jamesir Bensonmum, and the deaf-mute maid, Yetta. From the beginning, it's clear that the atmosphere is filled with mystery and intrigue.

During dinner, Twain reveals his intention to murder one of the guests by midnight. He is confident that none of the detectives will be able to solve the crime, presenting them with a unique challenge. Each detective is assigned a guest to protect, as they suspect that the murder will target one of them.

As the night progresses, the mansion becomes a playground for a series of bizarre and elaborate tricks and illusions. Guests find themselves trapped in spinning rooms, secret passages, and face various false identities. The detectives work together, but also compete against each other to unravel the complex web of deceit.

Throughout the movie, there are multiple attempted murders, confusing clues, and unexpected plot twists. As the tension and chaos increase, the detectives put their skills to the test, trying to solve the mystery before the ultimate crime occurs.

In the end, the detectives uncover the truth behind the murders and expose Lionel Twain's grand plan. However, the answer to the mystery is deliberately left ambiguous, challenging the audience to interpret the events for themselves.

Murder by Death is a comedic parody of classic murder mystery tropes and fictional detectives, filled with clever wordplay, slapstick humor, and a satirical take on the genre.
