In The Family Way, Jenny Piper and Arthur Fitton are a young couple who have just gotten married. After their wedding ceremony, they have a reception at a local pub. Although the attendees mean well, the atmosphere becomes rowdy and full of vulgar jokes and behavior. Despite this, Jenny and Arthur try to enjoy the celebration.

After the reception, the newlyweds head back to the Fitton family home, where they plan to spend their first night together as a married couple before leaving for their honeymoon in Majorca. However, some of the wedding guests follow them and continue the party at the house, causing a disruption.

As the night goes on, Jenny and Arthur find it difficult to have a private moment and get some rest. The guests keep the festivities going until the early morning, causing a great deal of chaos and noise. Eventually, the couple is allowed to retire to their bedroom but is met with another unfortunate mishap.

Annoyingly, as they try to settle in, their bed collapses due to a practical joke played by one of the wedding guests. This further adds to their frustration and prevents them from having a peaceful night together.

Throughout the film, The Family Way explores the challenges and awkward moments that young couples face as they navigate married life. It touches upon societal expectations, the dynamics of relationships, and the comical nature of mishaps and misunderstandings. The film provides an entertaining and light-hearted look at the early struggles of marriage, as Jenny and Arthur try to find their way amidst the chaos and the interference of well-meaning, if sometimes overbearing, family and friends.
