In the movie "The Frisco Kid," Rabbi Avram Belinski, played by Gene Wilder, arrives in Philadelphia from Poland in the late 19th century. He is on his way to San Francisco, where he has been appointed as a new rabbi for a congregation. However, being an innocent and inexperienced traveler, he becomes an easy target for con men.

The con men trick Rabbi Avram into paying for his journey to the west coast, promising him a safe and comfortable trip. However, the con men deceive him and abandon him along a deserted road, leaving him with nothing but his scattered belongings. Lost and desperate, Rabbi Avram is left to fend for himself.

Fortunately, he encounters a stranger named Tommy Lillard, played by Harrison Ford, who happens to be a bank robber. Tommy, despite his initial skepticism about the Rabbi, takes pity on him and decides to help him reach San Francisco safely. Together, they embark on a journey filled with numerous adventures and challenges.

Throughout their journey, Rabbi Avram faces various cultural clashes, language barriers, and misunderstandings, all while trying to maintain his pious and orthodox way of life. Tommy, on the other hand, is a rough and adventurous outlaw but gradually develops a friendship and deep respect for the Rabbi's unwavering beliefs and incredible determination.

Their escapades include encounters with Native Americans, a run-in with a gang of thieves, and even getting caught up in a gold rush. Through humor and unlikely circumstances, these two very different individuals form a unique bond, helping each other overcome their individual struggles and learn important life lessons.

As they approach San Francisco, Rabbi Avram faces his final challenge when Tommy falls seriously ill. Determined to complete his journey and fulfill his duty as a rabbi, Rabbi Avram must find a way to save his friend's life and get him the medical attention he needs.

In the end, their journey proves to be transformative for both Rabbi Avram and Tommy. They not only reach their destination but also discover inner strength, friendship, and a shared understanding and respect for each other's beliefs. "The Frisco Kid" is a heartwarming and comedic adventure that explores themes of friendship, faith, and the ability to find common ground despite vast differences.
