Western   United States of America

As the story unfolds, Ben Mockridge finds himself thrown into a harsh and unforgiving reality on the cattle trail. He is assigned to work under the cook, who initially mistakes him for a girl named Mary due to his young age and small build. Ben struggles with the physical demands of the job, enduring long hours of exhausting labor and menial tasks.

Throughout the cattle drive, Ben becomes increasingly disillusioned with his romanticized idea of the Wild West. He witnesses the lawlessness and brutality of the trail, as well as the injustices that often go unpunished. He sees crimes being committed by various members of the cattle crew, but they are never held accountable for their actions.

Amidst the hardships, Ben forms connections with some of the other cowboys, including a veteran named Luke who takes him under his wing. Luke offers guidance and camaraderie, helping Ben navigate the challenges of the trail.

As the cattle drive progresses, Ben experiences personal growth and gains a deeper understanding of the realities of life in the West. He learns the value of hard work, resilience, and the importance of sticking together as a community against adversity.

Towards the end of the journey, Ben's resilience is put to the test when he is confronted by a group of outlaws who rob him and leave him without a horse. Despite this setback, he eventually finds his way back to the trail, determined to complete his journey with the Culpepper Cattle Co.

In the culmination of the film, Ben and the rest of the cowboys reach the fort they were heading towards. While it may not have been the grand adventure Ben imagined, he has gained a greater appreciation for the challenging and unglamorous realities of cowboy life. He has also formed strong bonds and lasting friendships with the fellow cowboys who shared the journey with him.
