Drama   Greece

In the movie Attenberg, Marina, a 23-year-old girl, lives with her architect father in a unique prototype factory town located by the sea. Marina feels disconnected from the human species and finds them strange and repulsive. To understand them, she avoids direct interaction and instead observes humans through unconventional means.

Marina's primary sources of understanding human behavior are the songs of Suicide, a pioneering electronic music band known for their provocative lyrics, and the mammal documentaries of the renowned naturalist Sir David Attenborough. Through these sources, Marina gains insight into human nature and emotions, albeit at a distance.

Her only friend, Bella, plays a crucial role in Marina's understanding of human sexuality. Through their intimate conversations and sexual education lessons, Bella helps Marina navigate the complexities and intricacies of human relationships.

However, Marina's isolated existence is disrupted when a stranger arrives in town and challenges her to a foosball duel. This stranger, whose motivations are not immediately clear, insists on playing on Marina's personal foosball table. Marina is compelled to confront this challenge, which introduces an element of competition and potential connection with another human being.

Meanwhile, Marina's father, an architect whose ideologies and perspectives on life greatly influence her own, is preparing for his exit from the 20th century. He considers the era overrated and seeks a departure from the societal norms and expectations associated with it. This ritualistic preparation creates a further divide between Marina and the rest of the world, deepening her sense of isolation.

Caught between the two men, the stranger and her father, as well as her confidante Bella, Marina embarks on a quest to explore the mysteries of human behavior. Through her observation and investigation of the human fauna, Marina aims to unravel the enigmatic complexities of human nature and find her place within it.
