Hue and Cry is a British comedy film released in 1947. The film focuses on a group of street boys living in post-World War II London and their misadventures. The plot takes an interesting turn when they discover that a master crook has been using a popular comic strip in a children's magazine to communicate with his gang for carrying out robberies throughout the city.

The story begins with the main character, Joe Kirby, a young boy who loves reading comic strips. One day, while reading his favorite comic, "The Trump," he notices something peculiar. He realizes that the words in the strip are somehow forming a secret code, one that seemingly directs the criminal activities of a notorious thief called The Colonel.

Excited about his discovery, Joe shares this information with his gang of street-smart friends, including Alec, Spike, and Sammy. Together, they decide to take matters into their own hands and capture The Colonel, intending to impress their favorite comic book writer, Felix H. Wilkinson, who remains unaware of the hidden messages in his own creation.

What follows is a series of hilarious and thrilling escapades as the boys set out to outsmart the crooks and bring them to justice. Through their ingenuity and resourcefulness, the gang manages to stay one step ahead of the criminals, much to the dismay of The Colonel and his gang members.

The boys use The Trump comic strip as their secret weapon, closely examining each new episode and deciphering the hidden messages to anticipate the next location or target of the thieves. With each successful foiling of a robbery, the gang becomes bolder, gaining more confidence in their abilities.

However, their plan becomes complicated when Joe's older sister, Sally, begins dating one of The Colonel's henchmen, bidding the gang to bring her into the dangerous world they've uncovered. The stakes rise as they now need to protect Sally and ensure that she doesn't become a pawn in The Colonel's criminal activities.

The climax of the film culminates in a thrilling showdown between the boys and the crooks, set in the dark and mysterious warehouses of the London docks. Using their wit, teamwork, and knowledge gained from the comic strip, the young gang manages to outsmart the criminals and expose their nefarious operations.

Hue and Cry delivers a lighthearted yet thrilling adventure, showcasing the resilience, bravery, and intelligence of a group of resourceful street kids. The film exemplifies the charm of Ealing comedies, combining humor, mystery, and suspense, with a touch of youthful spirit.
