Cyrano de Bergerac, a talented poet and soldier, is deeply in love with his beautiful cousin Roxane. However, he is ashamed of his unusually large nose, which he believes will prevent Roxane from ever reciprocating his feelings. Despite his insecurities, Cyrano is a charismatic and witty man, renowned for his gift of poetic words.

When Cyrano learns that his new friend, Christian, is also in love with Roxane, he devises a plan to help Christian win her over while secretly expressing his own feelings. Recognizing Christian's physical attractiveness but lack of poetry, Cyrano offers his own eloquent words to him, composing passionate love letters and coaching him on how to woo Roxane.

Roxane, who is captivated by the poetry and romantic nature of Cyrano's letters, falls deeply in love with Christian, unaware that it is Cyrano's words touching her heart. As the two men continue their charade, Cyrano must suppress his own feelings of love for Roxane and provide Christian with the ongoing assistance to maintain their love story.

Throughout their courtship, Cyrano secretly watches from the shadows, basking in Roxane's love even if it is directed at Christian. However, their romantic bubble is shattered when Christian tragically dies in battle. Devastated by the loss of her beloved, Roxane retreats into mourning.

Years later, Cyrano, still fiercely in love with Roxane, visits her at a convent where she has been living. Convinced that her love affair had been solely based on Christian's looks and Cyrano's words, he decides to keep his feelings hidden forever. However, Roxane reveals that Christian's last letter and words on the battlefield were not the ones that Cyrano had written, but instead were his own genuine thoughts that expressed his love for her. Realizing that she had truly loved him all along, Roxane declares her deep affection for Cyrano.

Sadly, it is at this moment that Cyrano reveals his secret: that he had always been behind the romantic words Roxane cherished. Overwhelmed with emotions, Roxane finally sees beyond physical appearances, recognizing Cyrano's true self and his immense sacrifice for her happiness.

In the end, Cyrano, still keeping his love for Roxane alive, tragically dies, leaving Roxane devastated. The story ultimately portrays the theme of unrequited love, the power of beautiful words, and the tragic consequences of allowing one's insecurities to overshadow their chance for happiness.
