"God's Little Acre" is a 1958 drama film based on the novel of the same name by Erskine Caldwell. Set in rural Georgia, the story follows the dysfunctional Jordan family, led by Ty Ty Walden, a stubborn and somewhat eccentric cotton farmer.

Ty Ty becomes convinced that his deceased father has buried a large sum of gold somewhere on their land. Consumed by the idea of finding the treasure, he becomes obsessed and begins digging numerous holes all over their small farm, much to the chagrin of his family members. This quest for riches becomes a symbol of their escapism from the harsh realities of life.

Meanwhile, Ty Ty's sons Buck and Shaw engage in their own personal struggles. Buck, a labor organizer, tries to rally the farmworkers to demand better wages, but his efforts are met with hostility and resistance from both the landowners and some of the workers themselves. Shaw, on the other hand, is a dreamer who quits his stable job to pursue a career as a freelance photographer. His pursuit of his passion soon leads him on a path of self-discovery and temptation.

The family members also face marital problems and infidelity. Ty Ty's daughter-in-law, Griselda, grows increasingly frustrated with her husband, Buck, and his obsession with the treasure hunt. She seeks solace in the arms of Will Thompson, a wealthy landowner who is interested in exploiting Ty Ty's land for his own gain. The illicit affair brings about further tension and strained relationships within the family.

As the search for gold intensifies, the family's already fragile financial situation worsens. Unemployment, poverty, and the influence of alcohol create a volatile environment, pushing the family members to their limits. The pursuit of the buried treasure ultimately becomes a metaphor for their desperate search for a better life and a way to escape their hardships.

In a climactic moment, Ty Ty uncovers an ancient Egyptian artifact while digging, which he mistakenly believes to be the gold he has been seeking. This discovery leads to a series of tragic events that further tear the family apart.

In the end, "God's Little Acre" explores themes of greed, family dysfunction, the human desire for escape, and the devastating consequences of obsession. It paints a vivid picture of the challenges faced by poor rural families in the 1950s American South.
