"In Pursuit of Honor" is a 1995 Western drama film directed by Ken Olin. Set in the late 1930s, the movie follows a group of officers who embark on a daring mission to save a group of horses from being destroyed by the US Cavalry.

The plot centers around Major John Hardesty (played by Don Johnson), a decorated cavalry officer who witnesses a brutal order to destroy hundreds of horses under his command. Horrified by the act, he defies the orders and together with a few like-minded officers, including Lieutenant Marshall Buxton (played by Craig Sheffer), Captain John Boyd (played by Gabrielle Anwar), and Sergeant John Arms (played by Bob Gunton), they decide to save the horses.

The rebellious officers, along with a compassionate veterinarian, Captain Cabot (played by Rod Steiger), who joins their cause, form a bond and set out on a dangerous journey to save the horses from certain death. They face numerous challenges, including evading pursuit by their own military, battling harsh weather conditions, and navigating through rough terrain.

As they flee southward towards the Mexican border, they encounter sympathetic civilians who help them along the way. The officers also face hostility from those who view them as deserters and traitors to their country. The group's determination and sacrifices for the welfare of the horses create a strong emotional bond between them and the animals.

Meanwhile, Major Hardesty's wife, Jessica (played by Suzy Amis), becomes an advocate for their cause and uses her influence to rally support from various influential figures, hoping to halt the relentless pursuit of the cavalry.

In their pursuit of freedom and justice, the officers face numerous trials and tribulations, testing their loyalty, courage, and their belief in doing what is right. Ultimately, they reach the Canadian border, aided by sympathetic ranchers, Native Americans, and other compassionate individuals who believe in their cause.

The film concludes with a bittersweet ending as the officers and their loyal mounts cross the border into Canada, marking a symbolic victory for their cause. However, they are forever marked as outlaws in their own country, forced to abandon their military careers and lives to save the horses they cherished so deeply.

"In Pursuit of Honor" explores themes of loyalty, sacrifice, and the bond between humans and animals. It highlights the courage of those who risk everything to fight for what they believe in and sheds light on the mistreatment of animals during wartime.
