In "Despicable Me 2," former supervillain Gru has left his life of crime behind to focus on raising his three adopted daughters, Margo, Edith, and Agnes. However, his peaceful life takes a turn when he is approached by Lucy Wilde, an agent from the Anti-Villain League (AVL). The AVL wants Gru's expertise in dealing with a powerful new super criminal who has stolen a top-secret experimental serum that can transform living beings into indestructible, purple, and mind-controlled monsters.
Reluctantly, Gru agrees to help the AVL in their mission, as it aligns with his desire to protect his daughters and the world. He, along with Lucy, must go undercover at the Paradise Shopping Mall, where the AVL suspects the villain is operating. In order to maintain cover, Gru opens a jam and jelly shop called "Bake My Day."
While investigating at the mall, Gru meets Eduardo Perez, the owner of a Mexican restaurant, who becomes a potential suspect. At the same time, Gru's minions are being kidnapped and transformed into the purple monsters. Gru and Lucy's investigation leads them to a secret laboratory hidden beneath the restaurant, where the super criminal, known as El Macho, plans to use the serum to create an army of indestructible minions.
Gru and Lucy uncover El Macho's plan but are captured and tied up, leaving the fate of the world and the minions in their hands. However, Gru's loyal minions, who were not transformed, come to the rescue. Together, they manage to defeat El Macho and restore the transformed minions to their original state.
In the end, Gru realizes his true feelings for Lucy and the two begin a romantic relationship. Gru also adopts the AVL's pet chicken, who becomes a beloved companion for his daughters. With the world safe once again, Gru balances his life between being a loving father and a secret agent.
