In the movie Road to Perdition, set in 1931 during the Great Depression, Mike Sullivan (played by Tom Hanks) works as a trusted enforcer and hitman for the Irish mob under crime boss John Rooney (played by Paul Newman). Sullivan is extremely loyal to Rooney, who has acted as a surrogate father to him since his own father died when he was young.

However, Sullivan's life takes a dramatic turn when his young son, Michael Jr. (played by Tyler Hoechlin), accidentally witnesses a murder committed by Connor Rooney (played by Daniel Craig), John Rooney's hot-headed and jealous biological son. Fearing that his son's life is in danger and aware of Connor's malevolence, Sullivan decides to go on the run with Michael Jr.

As father and son embark on a dangerous journey, Sullivan's deep-rooted loyalty to Rooney conflicts with his newfound desire to protect his son. Knowing that he can no longer trust anyone within the mob, Sullivan seeks revenge against those who wronged him and his family. This leads him to form an unlikely alliance with a photographer named Maguire (played by Jude Law), who works as a freelance crime scene investigator and has a penchant for killing people for profit.

As they evade the relentless pursuit of the Rooneys, Sullivan and Michael Jr. develop a stronger bond and begin to question their own roles within the world of crime. Sullivan's actions ultimately bring him face-to-face with both the harsh realities of his chosen profession and the consequences of his decisions.

Throughout the film, Road to Perdition explores themes of loyalty, fatherhood, and the struggle between seeking redemption and perpetuating a cycle of violence. It delves into the complex dynamics of family, showcasing the sacrifices and choices that a father can make to protect his child, even when it means betraying his own mentor and father figure.
