"The East" follows the story of Sarah Moss, an intelligent and talented operative working for a prestigious private intelligence firm called Hiller Brood. Sarah's expertise lies in infiltrating various activist groups and reporting back valuable information to her superiors.

At the beginning of the film, Sarah is given a new assignment by her boss, Sharon. She is tasked with infiltrating an elusive anarchist group known as "The East." This group is notorious for executing covert attacks on major corporations that they deem responsible for unethical practices, environmental degradation, and social injustices. Their methods include poisoning executives, exposing corporate secrets, and targeting specific individuals tied to these corporations.

To gain access to The East, Sarah adopts the identity of a free-spirited eco-activist named Isabella. She abandons her luxurious lifestyle and immerses herself in the counterculture, living off the grid in dilapidated houses with other members of The East. Sarah's primary goal is to gain the trust of the group's charismatic leader, Benji, and gather as much information as possible about their next target.

As Sarah spends more time with The East, she starts witnessing their unwavering commitment to their cause and the depth of their hatred for corporations. The members of the group have all been personally affected by corporate greed, and Sarah begins to sympathize with their struggle. Her encounters with fellow members, such as the passionate and enigmatic Izzy and the strict but caring Doc, challenge her own perceptions and beliefs.

Sarah's priorities become irrevocably changed as she finds herself torn between her duty to her employer, who expects her to uncover and dismantle The East, and her growing emotional connection to the group and its cause. She questions the moral implications of corporate power and the lengths corporations will go to protect their interests.

As Sarah delves deeper into The East's operations, she uncovers a dark secret that threatens to expose the true motivations behind the group's attacks. The film intensifies as she is forced to make difficult choices that could have severe consequences for both herself and The East members. The line between protagonist and antagonist becomes blurred, leaving Sarah with the challenging task of determining where her true allegiance lies and what she is willing to sacrifice for her newfound beliefs.
