The movie Lion is based on a true story and follows the extraordinary life journey of Saroo Brierley.

At the age of five, Saroo accidentally gets separated from his family when he falls asleep on a stationary train in his hometown of Khandwa in Madhya Pradesh, India. Waking up to find himself alone and trapped on a train that takes him thousands of kilometers away, he eventually arrives in Calcutta (now known as Kolkata), completely lost and unable to communicate in the local Bengali language.

Saroo faces immense challenges while living on the streets of Calcutta, struggling to survive on his own as a young child in a fast-paced and chaotic city. He dodges dangerous situations, sheltering himself in makeshift homes alongside other street children. Eventually, he finds some support when he is taken to an orphanage and subsequently adopted by a loving Australian couple, John and Sue Brierley. They provide a safe and nurturing environment for Saroo in Hobart, Tasmania.

Fast forward twenty-five years later, Saroo is now a young adult attending university in Australia. The memories of his lost family start resurfacing, fueled by the scent of his mother's cooking and the sounds of India that he hears throughout his life. Driven by an intense desire to reconnect with his past, Saroo embarks on a quest to trace his roots and find his long-lost family.

Using technology that wasn't available during his childhood, Saroo begins his search on Google Earth, meticulously scanning satellite images of different regions in India to find landmarks that he faintly remembers from his early childhood. With the support of his Australian friends, he dedicates countless hours to this painstaking process.

After years of searching, Saroo finally identifies the place he once called home - a small rural village called Ganesh Talai. He takes a courageous trip back to India, where he reunites with his biological mother and younger sister, with the help of a local man named Mantosh, who acts as a translator. The reunion is an emotionally charged and heartwarming moment as Saroo's family is overcome with joy and disbelief.

The movie Lion showcases the resilience of the human spirit and the power of love and determination. It explores themes of identity, family bonds, and cultural displacement, while shedding light on the experiences of lost and orphaned children around the world.
