In the movie "Fanboys," the story revolves around a group of close-knit friends who are huge Star Wars fans. The film is set in 1999, just a few months before the highly anticipated release of "Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace."

The protagonist is Eric Bottler, a die-hard Star Wars fan, whose friend and fellow fan, Linus, is diagnosed with a terminal illness. The news devastates their group of friends, including Windows, Hutch, and Zoe, who have spent their lives obsessing over Star Wars together.

Upon learning that Linus has limited time left, Eric suggests a daring plan to bring their dying friend to Skywalker Ranch, the legendary film studio owned by George Lucas. The goal is to break into the facility and screen an early copy of "The Phantom Menace" for Linus, fulfilling his lifelong dream of seeing the film before he passes away.

Despite initial doubts and hesitations, the friends embark on an epic cross-country road trip to reach Skywalker Ranch. Along the way, they encounter various adventures and obstacles, including confrontations with angry Trekkies, as the friends navigate their way through the Star Wars fandom community.

Throughout their journey, the group grows closer, and their love for Star Wars and each other is tested. Eric, in particular, struggles with his own fears and regrets, realizing the importance of friendship and cherishing the time they have left with Linus.

Eventually, the friends arrive at Skywalker Ranch but find themselves facing additional challenges and unexpected revelations. With time running out, they must push their determination to the limit, risking their freedom and friendships for the sake of their dying friend's last wish.

"Fanboys" is not only a comedy celebrating the Star Wars fandom culture but also explores themes of friendship, loyalty, and the pursuit of dreams. It showcases the power of shared passion and the lengths people are willing to go for the ones they love.
