The story begins with Professor Pierre Aronnax and his faithful servant Conseil joining an expedition led by the United States government to investigate the mysterious sinkings of ships around the world. The team also includes a harpooner named Ned Land.

While on board their ship, the Abraham Lincoln, they encounter a massive and elusive sea creature believed to be responsible for the sinkings. However, they soon discover that it is not a sea creature at all but an incredibly advanced and futuristic submarine called the Nautilus, commanded by the enigmatic and reclusive Captain Nemo.

Captured and taken on board the Nautilus, Aronnax, Conseil, and Ned Land are amazed by the technological marvels they encounter. They explore the underwater world, witnessing incredible marine life and breathtaking landscapes. Captain Nemo, with his obsessive nature, is revealed to be a tormented genius who has turned his back on society and is seeking revenge against it.

As they spend more time on the Nautilus, the captives are torn between their admiration for its technological marvels and their longing to return to the surface. Aronnax, particularly fascinated by the underwater discoveries, develops a deep connection with Captain Nemo, trying to understand his motivations and philosophical beliefs.

During their journey, the Nautilus encounters various adventures and dangers, including a harrowing battle with a giant squid. They also witness the savagery of shark hunting, the destruction of a warship, and the exploration of lost cities beneath the sea. Through these encounters, the captives begin to question the ethics and consequences of Nemo's actions, especially his relentless pursuit of vengeance.

Eventually, Aronnax and his companions find an opportunity to escape from the Nautilus and return to the surface. As they bid farewell to their extraordinary subterranean life, they reflect on the beauty and wonders they encountered but also lament the tragic fate of Captain Nemo and the destruction he left in his wake.

With its themes exploring the conflict between man and nature, the dangers of unchecked scientific progress, and the consequences of seeking revenge, "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" captivates audiences with its blend of adventure, suspense, and philosophical questions.
