In the movie Double Jeopardy, Libby Parsons (played by Ashley Judd) is a loving wife and mother who wakes up one morning to find her wealthy husband, Nick Parsons (played by Bruce Greenwood), missing and bloodstains in their boat. She soon becomes the prime suspect for his murder. Despite maintaining her innocence, Libby is convicted and sentenced to prison.

While serving her sentence, Libby learns about a legal concept known as "double jeopardy," which prevents an individual from being retried for the same crime. Armed with this knowledge, she also discovers a loophole in the law - if she can prove that her husband is still alive, she can seek revenge without fear of being prosecuted again.

Upon her release from prison, Libby begins her relentless quest to find her husband and prove her innocence. She hires a parolee named Travis (played by Tommy Lee Jones), an experienced tracker, to help her locate Nick. Together, they follow a series of clues that lead them across the country, uncovering a web of deception, betrayal, and a shocking truth.

As Libby gets closer to finding Nick, she learns that he faked his own death and framed her to gain control of their assets and start a new life with their son. Nick's motivation stems from his affair with Libby's best friend, Angie (played by Annabeth Gish), who aided him in his scheme.

With Travis by her side, Libby sets out to confront Nick and reclaim her life. As they close in on him, they must evade the law enforcement agencies hot on their trail. The thrilling climax takes place on a remote island, testing Libby's resolve as she fights to protect her son, prove her innocence, and bring her husband to justice.

Throughout the movie, Double Jeopardy combines elements of a suspenseful thriller with a tale of redemption and empowerment. Libby's journey not only involves finding her husband but also reclaiming her identity that was stolen from her. As the truth unfolds, she becomes a woman determined to live on her own terms and protect her loved ones from further harm.
