The movie Betrayed follows the story of the Norwegian Jews who were deported to Auschwitz during World War II. The film focuses on the experiences of several families, including the Johansen family, whose patriarch, Jacob, is among those taken away. His wife, Sarah, is left behind with their young son, Daniel, and they struggle to survive and maintain hope while awaiting Jacob's return.
As the journey to Auschwitz unfolds, the conditions on the ship are harsh and brutal. The passengers are cramped together in crowded quarters, with little food or sanitation. Many become sick and weak during the voyage, and some do not survive the journey.
Upon arrival at Auschwitz, the Norwegian Jews are subjected to the horrors of the concentration camp, including forced labor, starvation, and brutal treatment by the guards. Sarah and Daniel are separated from Jacob upon arrival, and they must navigate the harsh realities of life in the camp while holding onto the hope of being reunited with their loved one.
The film also explores the efforts of resistance fighters and sympathetic individuals who work to help the Jewish prisoners, providing them with food, information, and means of communication. Despite the overwhelming odds stacked against them, the Norwegian Jews show resilience and strength in the face of unimaginable atrocities.
Betrayed is a poignant and powerful portrayal of the Holocaust, highlighting the courage and determination of those who faced persecution and genocide during one of the darkest periods in history.
