Macunaíma, a mythological Brazilian character, is born as a fully grown black man in a village in the heart of the Brazilian jungle. As a mischievous and playful individual, he possesses various magical powers. However, Macunaíma transforms into a white man due to a mysterious magical occurrence.

Eager to explore the world beyond his village, Macunaíma embarks on an adventurous journey to the bustling city of São Paulo. In the city, he embraces a dandy lifestyle, reveling in extravagant clothes, parties, and indulgences. During his time in São Paulo, he falls in love with Ci, a passionate and revolutionary woman who fights against the social injustices prevailing in society.

Tragically, Ci dies in an accidental bombing, leaving Macunaíma with a profound sense of loss and a desire for revenge. Determined to enact justice, Macunaíma devises a plan to rob a ruthless industrialist, a symbol of the city's corrupt capitalist system. In an act of defiance, he successfully carries out the robbery, symbolizing his rebellion against societal norms.

However, after acquiring material wealth and knowledge, Macunaíma realizes that these possessions hold little value in his village, where simplicity and harmony with nature are cherished. Disenchanted with the city and its superficiality, he returns to his village, losing himself in the immensity and cultural richness of the Brazilian jungle. Macunaíma's newfound knowledge and possessions become insignificant as he reconnects with his roots and finds fulfillment in the simplicity of his ancestral way of life.

Throughout the movie, Macunaíma's journey serves as a satirical exploration of Brazil's cultural diversity, its modernization struggles, and the clash between urban and rural lifestyles. The film offers a multifaceted narrative, blending magical realism with social commentary, and depicts Macunaíma's personal growth and transformation as he navigates societal expectations and discovers his own identity.
