In the movie Coogan's Bluff, Deputy Sheriff Walt Coogan, played by Clint Eastwood, is assigned to travel from Arizona to New York City to extradite the prisoner, James Ringerman. Ringerman is a young offender accused of assaulting a young woman.

However, when Coogan arrives in New York, he discovers that the local police have lost track of Ringerman, who has escaped. Determined to bring him back, Coogan decides to take matters into his own hands and ventures into the chaotic and unfamiliar world of Manhattan.

Coogan begins his chase, navigating the bustling city streets, encountering various characters, and going through several thrilling and action-packed sequences. Along the way, he meets Julie, a social worker played by Susan Clark, who assists him in his pursuit.

As Coogan gets closer to finding Ringerman, he crosses paths with a vicious pimp named Pushie, played by Don Stroud. Pushie, who has a personal vendetta against Coogan, becomes an obstacle in his search for the escaped prisoner.

Throughout the film, Coogan finds himself assimilating into the fast-paced and unconventional lifestyle of New York City. His tough and determined personality is often at odds with the laid-back and carefree attitude of the city's inhabitants. Coogan's methods clash with the bureaucracy and red tape of the local police force, leading to some humorous and contentious interactions.

Eventually, Coogan locates Ringerman's hiding place, a hippie commune in the city. In a thrilling climax, Coogan confronts Ringerman and his newfound allies, leading to a dramatic showdown.

Coogan's Bluff explores the clash between the traditional values of the Old West, represented by Coogan, and the modern, urban environment of New York City. Filled with action, suspense, and Eastwood's signature tough guy charisma, the film showcases Coogan's relentless pursuit of justice and brings the story to an exciting conclusion.
