In "Psycho Beach Party," the main character, Janis, is a teenage girl living in 1960's Malibu. She has always been different from other girls in town, with a secret alter ego named Ann Bowman, who is confident, sexually aggressive, and foul-mouthed. Janis suffers from dissociative identity disorder, causing her to switch between her innocent self and Ann without knowing it.

Janis dreams of becoming the first girl surfer at Malibu Beach, a male-dominated surf scene where she faces constant discrimination and ridicule. Determined to prove herself, she begins secretly practicing her surfing skills with the help of her best friend, Rhonda, who supports Janis's aspiration but is unaware of her condition.

As the story progresses, Janis starts experiencing "episodes" where she loses control of herself, and Ann takes over. During these moments, Janis becomes oblivious to her surroundings, and shocking murders start happening along the beach. The victims are mostly young and attractive beachgoers who have somehow crossed paths with Janis.

The local police, led by the bumbling Detective Violent, starts investigating the mysterious killings. Suspicion falls on various characters, including Janis herself, causing tensions to rise. Rhonda, meanwhile, begins to suspect that something is not right with her friend and becomes determined to uncover the truth.

Unbeknownst to Janis, her alter ego, Ann, is responsible for the murders during her episodes. The film plays with the audience's perception as to whether Janis is aware of her dual identity or if she is genuinely innocent. The mystery intensifies as the body count rises, and Rhonda gets closer to discovering the shocking truth about her best friend.

The climax of the movie occurs during a big surf competition at Malibu Beach, where Janis is set to reveal her talent to the world. As she takes to the waves, her alter ego begins to emerge, leading to a thrilling and suspenseful sequence where Janis battles against herself to prevent more bloodshed. The truth about Janis's condition is finally revealed, shedding light on the darkness that has plagued her and the beachgoers.

"Psycho Beach Party" combines elements of 1960's beach party films with the slasher horror genre, creating a unique and twisted tale of teenage struggle, identity, and murder. It explores themes of acceptance, society's expectations, and the dangers of suppressing one's true self.
