In the movie "The Nutty Professor," Jerry Lewis portrays Professor Julius Kelp, a socially awkward and nerdy chemistry teacher at a small college. Constantly being ridiculed and ignored by his students, he becomes desperate for a solution to assert himself and gain confidence.

One day, while tinkering in his laboratory, Kelp accidentally creates a mysterious potion. Upon consuming it, he undergoes a remarkable transformation, turning into the handsome, charismatic, and confident Buddy Love. As Buddy, he captivates everyone around him and becomes the life of the party. He wins the attention of his beautiful student Stella Purdy (played by Stella Stevens), who becomes enamored with his newfound charm.

However, as the effects of the potion begin to wear off, Professor Kelp's true self reemerges at the most inconvenient moments, leading to embarrassing and chaotic situations. Juggling his dual identities becomes increasingly challenging as Buddy's arrogance and selfishness begin to alienate those around him.

As Kelp's relationship with Stella develops, the question of whether he should continue using the potion to maintain his newfound confidence becomes central to the plot. Kelp realizes that true love cannot be built on a façade, and in a climactic scene, he embraces his own identity and rejects the potion.

"The Nutty Professor" explores themes of self-acceptance, identity, and the consequences of seeking external validation. It showcases Jerry Lewis's iconic physical comedy and slapstick humor, as well as his ability to depict characters with complex emotional journeys. The film's success led to a 1996 remake starring Eddie Murphy, which also gained popularity among audiences.
