"The Debt" is a psychological thriller that delves into the consequences of a past mission for a group of Mossad agents. The story unfolds in two timelines: the present day and 1966.

In 1966, young Mossad agents Rachel Singer, Stephan Gold, and David Peretz embark on a mission to capture and bring to justice the brutal Nazi war criminal, Dieter Vogel, known as the Surgeon of Birkenau. Vogel performed horrifying medical experiments on prisoners in the Auschwitz concentration camp during World War II. The agents successfully locate Vogel in East Berlin, but their plan to extradite him to Israel goes awry when he attempts to escape. In a moment of desperation, Rachel shoots and kills him on the streets.

The movie then shifts to thirty years later in the present day. Rachel, now an esteemed and renowned author, is living in Israel. A man claiming to be the long-dead surgeon surfaces, threatening to reveal the truth about what happened in East Berlin. Rachel reunites with her former teammates, Stephan and David, and they agree to confront the imposter and protect their secret.

As they begin digging into the mystery, Rachel is plagued by haunting memories and guilt over the events of the past. Flashbacks reveal the emotional and psychological toll the mission took on the agents, straining their friendships and causing them to question their actions.

As Rachel and her team delve deeper into the imposter's identity, they uncover a web of deceit, betrayal, and government cover-ups. The real truth behind Vogel's death and the imposter's motives gradually unravels, leading them to question their perceptions of right and wrong.

The story reaches a climactic point when Rachel is captured by the imposter, who reveals unexpected ties to her past. In a gripping showdown, the truth about Vogel's death is finally revealed, forcing Rachel to confront the emotional and moral implications of her actions. The movie explores themes of loyalty, redemption, and the personal cost of carrying the burden of a debt owed to history.
