In the movie "For the Love of a Child," set in 1959, two actresses named Laura and Grace, who are based in Asia, receive support from US troops stationed there. Inspired by the plight of mixed-race 'orphans' who are often neglected and treated as outcasts in the local community, Laura and Grace decide to start a charity called Childhelp.

Childhelp aims to provide a safe haven for abused and neglected children. Over time, Childhelp grows and establishes multi-disciplinary centers in various locations across the United States. These centers serve as a refuge for children who have gone through traumatic experiences.

One of the children supported by Childhelp is Jacob Fletcher, a bright young boy. Jacob has been subjected to severe trauma at the hands of his stepfather, who happens to be a lawyer. After his stepfather is convicted and sentenced to 10 months in jail, Jacob is returned to his care.

Despite his traumatic experiences, Jacob's resilience and the support of the competent and devoted staff at the Childhelp center help him in his recovery. The center utilizes animal therapy, where animals are used as a form of counseling and healing for the children.

Throughout the movie, Jacob interacts with his peers, who also have distressing stories of their own. However, with the help of the caring staff and the therapeutic environment at the former farm, the majority of the children make significant progress in overcoming their past traumas and rebuilding their lives.

"For the Love of a Child" showcases the power of love, compassion, and dedicated support in helping abused and neglected children find healing and hope for a brighter future.
