Drama   United States of America

As Ben Hardin returns to his rural hometown to care for his mother, he finds himself navigating through various challenges and conflicts that test his relationships with family and friends.

Upon his arrival, Ben realizes that his mother's condition is more severe than he initially thought. The stroke has left her partially paralyzed, requiring constant care and attention. Overwhelmed by the responsibility of being her primary caregiver, Ben struggles to balance his obligations towards his mother and his ambition to complete his book.

As Ben settles into his old childhood home, tensions within his family start to surface. His older brother, Mike, resents Ben for leaving the town years ago to pursue his writing career, leaving Mike to handle their parents alone. Their ongoing rivalry and unresolved issues only intensify as Ben's return stirs up old wounds.

Moreover, Ben's relationship with his childhood best friend, Lisa, becomes strained. Although they were once inseparable, their lives have taken different paths, and their priorities have changed. Lisa is now married with children and no longer shares the same dreams and aspirations as Ben. Their friendship is further tested when Ben starts to rely on her for support and assistance in caring for his mother.

As Ben struggles to find a balance between his personal and professional life, he pours himself into his writing, using the isolation of his hometown as inspiration. Through his book, he explores themes of family, loss, and the complexities of small-town life.

However, as tensions continue to rise, Ben begins to realize that the strained relationships in his personal life are hindering his creative process. Working through his emotions and finding forgiveness becomes crucial not only for his relationships but also for his ability to complete his book.

Throughout the film, Ben learns the importance of reconnecting with his roots and the need to mend broken relationships. As he confronts his own demons and reconciles with his family, friends, and himself, Ben ultimately finds the strength to move forward and complete his book, as well as finding a new understanding of what it means to be truly present for the people who matter most in his life.
