In the movie Over the Moon, the girl named Fei Fei is a young, intelligent, and imaginative Chinese girl who believes in the legend of the Moon Goddess, Chang'e. After losing her mother, Fei Fei becomes determined to prove that Chang'e is real and reunite her father with the Moon Goddess, hoping it will bring her family back together.

To accomplish her goal, Fei Fei designs and builds a homemade rocket-centered around the Moon Festival, a special time when people honor Chang'e and her mythical story. She aims to fly to the moon, meet Chang'e, and ask her to grant her wish.

With her pet rabbit, Bungee, and her annoying yet well-meaning little brother, Chin, Fei Fei embarks on her extraordinary journey. As her rocket takes off, she crash-lands on the surface of the moon. There, she discovers a whimsical and colorful lunar world filled with fascinating creatures and mythical beings.

Fei Fei comes face-to-face with Chang'e, who is initially mesmerizing and powerful but reveals herself to be sorrowful and lonely. Chang'e is trapped by her past, desperately waiting for her true love, Houyi, to reunite with her. However, Houyi left her on the moon long ago, leading Chang'e to retreat into sadness and lock away the fragments of her heart.

Fei Fei sympathizes with Chang'e, understanding the pain of lost loved ones, and decides to help her. She and her new friends embark on a quest to find the key to unlock Chang'e's heart fragments, spread courage, and reignite hope within her. Along the way, they face challenges and encounter fantastical creatures such as the Lunarians, led by a manipulative and conniving ruler.

Through a combination of determination, friendship, and bravery, Fei Fei prevails, freeing Chang'e from her emotional shackles. With Chang'e's heart fully restored, Fei Fei learns valuable lessons about family, love, and the importance of moving forward, even in the face of grief.

In the end, Fei Fei, filled with wisdom and new experiences, returns to Earth, bringing the spirit of Chang'e and the Moon Festival celebrations with her. She brings her father and the rest of her family closer together, cherishing the memories of her journey and finding solace in her ongoing connection with the Moon Goddess.
