In the movie "One Night with the King," the audience is taken back to ancient times, around 483 BC, in the Persian Empire. The story revolves around the life of Hadassah, a young Jewish girl who grows up as an orphan under the care of her uncle Mordecai in the city of Susa.

Hadassah, portrayed as a kind-hearted and beautiful girl, catches the attention of Hegai, the king's trusted eunuch servant, during his search for candidates to become the new queen of Persia. Hegai is captivated by her charm and decides to select her among other young women to be presented to the king.

Hadassah, now renamed Esther, goes through intense training and preparation to become a part of the king's harem and eventually obtains favor from King Xerxes I. The king is charmed by her beauty and her graceful demeanor, ultimately selecting her to be his queen.

As Esther settles into her new role, an ambitious and malicious prime minister named Haman begins to rise to power. Haman despises the Jewish people due to his personal vendetta against Mordecai, who refuses to bow down to him. Haman manages to manipulate the king into issuing a decree that would exterminate all Jews in the empire.

Learning about this decree, Mordecai instructs Esther to use her influence as queen to intervene and save her people. However, approaching the king without being summoned is considered a great risk, as it could result in immediate death if the king does not extend his golden scepter.

Esther gathers her courage and embarks on a three-day fast, seeking guidance and strength from God. She then appears before the king, who extends his scepter, sparing her life. Realizing the courage and bravery Esther possesses, the king invites her to ask for anything she desires.

Instead of immediately revealing her true intentions, Esther invites the king and Haman to a series of banquets. During one of these banquets, Esther discloses her Jewish identity and exposes Haman's wicked plot to exterminate her people. The king, enraged by this revelation, orders Haman's execution on the very gallows he had prepared for Mordecai.

Esther's intervention saves the Jews from genocide, and a new decree is issued allowing the Jewish people to defend themselves against their enemies. The Jews triumph over those who sought to harm them, and the festival of Purim is established to celebrate their deliverance.

"One Night with the King" captures the biblical tale of Esther's bravery, her rise from an orphaned Jewish girl to becoming the Queen of Persia, and her pivotal role in saving her people from annihilation. It showcases themes of faith, courage, and the power of one individual's actions to make a significant impact on history.
