In the movie Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale, young Pietari and his father Rauno live in northern Finland, where they make a living by hunting reindeer. On the eve of Christmas, an "archeological" dig uncovers the real Santa Claus, who turns out to be a terrifying and dangerous being. This Santa is unlike the jolly gift-giver children expect, and he is accompanied by a group of ominous elves.

Mysteriously, local children start to disappear, causing panic and concern among the villagers. Pietari and his father, realizing the danger Santa poses, capture the mythological being. They come up with a plan to sell Santa to the misguided leader of a multinational corporation that sponsored the dig, hoping to profit from their captive.

However, Santa's loyal elves are relentless in their pursuit to free their leader from captivity. They carry out a series of bizarre and darkly humorous schemes to rescue Santa and wreak havoc on the village. As this battle between humans and elves unfolds, the movie delves into a fantastically bizarre polemic on modern day morality.

Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale reimagines the beloved childhood fantasy of Santa Claus, infusing it with horror, dark comedy, and social commentary. It offers a unique and twisted take on the holiday season, becoming a darkly comic gem that challenges traditional Christmas narratives.
