"The Dish & the Spoon" is an indie romantic comedy-drama film directed by Alison Bagnall. The movie revolves around Rose (Greta Gerwig), a woman devastated by her husband's infidelity, who embarks on a journey of self-discovery in a small coastal town in Delaware.

One night, while drowning her sorrows with alcohol in a local bar, Rose confronts her cheating husband and ends up meeting a young British man known only as The Boy (Olly Alexander). The Boy is lost and heartbroken, having recently broken up with his girlfriend. Drawn to each other's wounded spirits, Rose and The Boy share a connection and decide to spend the night together, seeking solace in each other's company.

As their bond forms, Rose and The Boy embark on aimless wanderings and misadventures in the small town, pretending to be a happy couple to escape their own emotional turmoil. They engage in bizarre and comical scenarios, such as breaking into a stranger's home, getting into fights, and even participating in a misguided reenactment of a circus event.

As they continue to spend time together, their fake relationship starts to blur the lines of reality. Both Rose and The Boy use their newfound connection as a means to escape their own pain and loneliness, but they soon realize that their emotional dependency may not be the solution they were seeking. In their midst of acting out idealized versions of a happy relationship, they must confront their own insecurities and face the harsh realities of their broken hearts.

"The Dish & the Spoon" strips away the conventional romantic comedy tropes and instead focuses on the messy complexity of human emotions. With beautifully-tuned comic performances by Greta Gerwig and Olly Alexander, the film explores themes of grief, vulnerability, and the innate need for connection. Through their unconventional journey, Rose and The Boy learn to accept their own flaws, finding solace and personal growth in each other's unwitting presence.
