"Son of the South" is a biographical drama film based on the memoir "The Wrong Side of Murder Creek" by author and civil rights activist Bob Zellner. The story begins in the late 1950s in Montgomery, Alabama, where Bob, a white college student, is confronted with the deeply ingrained racism and segregation of the Deep South.

Bob comes from a family with deep ties to the Ku Klux Klan. His grandfather, a fervent member of the Klan, disapproves of Bob's association with African American neighbors and considers it a betrayal of their heritage. However, through his interactions with courageous individuals like Medgar Evers, Rosa Parks, and John Lewis, Bob's perspective on race and injustice begins to change.

Moved by the injustice and racial violence perpetuated against African Americans, Bob decides to join the Civil Rights Movement. Under the guidance of prominent figures such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Bob actively participates in Freedom Rides, sit-ins, and voter registration campaigns, risking his life for the cause of equality.

While striving to dismantle segregation, Bob faces numerous challenges from his own family and members of the white supremacist groups. His involvement in the movement also puts his life and loved ones in danger, as the Klan becomes increasingly hostile toward those involved in the fight for civil rights.

Throughout the film, Bob experiences personal growth and transformation as he navigates the complexities of racial politics during a turbulent and transformative period in American history. "Son of the South" portrays his journey from a young man shaped by his family's racist beliefs to an individual dedicated to social justice and equality.

The film highlights not only the systemic racism prevalent in the South but also the power of activism and the impact that individuals, regardless of their background, can make in the fight for justice and equality.
