1. The Blue-Collar American (George Lonegan):
George Lonegan, portrayed by Matt Damon, is a blue-collar American who possesses a unique ability – he can communicate with the dead. However, George finds his gift more like a curse as it isolates him from society and prevents him from leading a normal life. Trying to escape his past, he takes up a job as a factory worker and tries to suppress his psychic abilities.

2. The French Journalist (Marie Lelay):
Marie Lelay, played by Cécile de France, is a French journalist who survives a devastating tsunami while on vacation in Southeast Asia. During the near-death experience, Marie has a profound encounter with the afterlife. This encounter shakes her to the core and leads her on a personal journey to seek answers about what happens after we die.

3. The London School Boy (Marcus and Jason):
The story also follows a young London school boy named Marcus, along with his twin brother Jason. Marcus, sensitively portrayed by Frankie McLaren, and his brother have a strong bond. However, tragedy strikes when Jason is killed in a car accident. Devastated by the loss of his brother, Marcus becomes determined to find a way to communicate with him or at least understand what happens after death.

As these three individuals cope with the complexities of their existence, their paths converge, leading them on an intertwining journey to find solace, understanding, and ultimately, acceptance in the face of mortality. The film explores various themes including grief, loss, spirituality, and the human need for connection in the face of death.
