La matassa is an Italian comedy film directed by and starring Ficarra and Picone, along with Domenico Centamore, Pino Caruso, and Claudio Gioè. It was released in 2009 and produced by Sky Cinema, Tramp LTD, and Medusa Film.

The story revolves around a group of characters who find themselves involved in a series of interconnected events and misunderstandings. Set in two different time periods, 1958 and 2008, the film follows the lives of several families living in the same building in Palermo, Sicily.

In the 1958 storyline, Salvatore and his wife, Rita, live with their children in the building. Salvatore is an honest and hardworking man who becomes the target of a corrupt politician, Don Calogero. Don Calogero is determined to evict Salvatore and his family from their apartment, so he can use the building for his own gain.

Meanwhile, in the present-day 2008 storyline, two local comedians, Ficarra and Picone, find themselves embroiled in a hilarious and chaotic series of events. They are mistaken for dangerous criminals and get mixed up with a crime syndicate, a stolen painting, and a diamond heist. Along the way, they encounter various eccentric characters, including a mafia boss and a police inspector.

As the two timelines intersect, the characters from the past and present collide, leading to a grand and comical finale. Through a series of misunderstandings, mistaken identities, and comedic situations, the characters must find a way to resolve their issues and bring justice to those who deserve it.

La matassa is a fast-paced and humorous film that explores themes of corruption, family, and the power of friendship. With its blend of slapstick comedy and social commentary, it offers a unique and entertaining cinematic experience.
