In Sicario: Day of the Soldado, the story unfolds against the backdrop of the escalating war on drugs and human trafficking at the US-Mexico border. The US government, realizing that the cartels have now expanded their operations to include smuggling terrorists into the United States, recruits Agent Matt Graver (played by Josh Brolin) to eliminate the cartel's influence.

To achieve this, Graver once again teams up with the volatile operative Alejandro Gillick (played by Benicio Del Toro). Their plan involves starting a war between rival cartels, hoping the chaos will distract the cartels from their lucrative human trafficking business.

Graver uses his contacts to have Isabel Reyes (played by Isabela Moner), the teenage daughter of a high-profile cartel kingpin, kidnapped. They stage the kidnapping to appear as if a rival cartel was responsible. The goal is to provoke a war between the cartels and ultimately expose the smuggling routes.

However, the plan goes awry when Isabel escapes from her captors and is pursued by both the cartel members and corrupt Mexican police. Seeing an opportunity to gain redemption for himself, Alejandro decides to protect Isabel and take her under his wing.

As Graver and his team try to salvage the operation, they soon realize that the situation has spiraled out of control. The retaliation between the cartels escalates into a violent conflict, leading to a series of intense and explosive confrontations.

Amid the chaos, Alejandro becomes deeply attached to Isabel and vows to protect her at all costs, risking his own life in the process. He seeks to uncover the corruption and deceit within the US government while also trying to dismantle the cartels involved in human trafficking.

As the narrative unfolds, alliances shift, loyalties are tested, and the characters are faced with difficult choices. Through their actions, the film delves into themes of morality, the blurred lines of justice, and the often brutal consequences of the war on drugs.

Sicario: Day of the Soldado is a tense and gripping thriller that navigates the murky world of drug cartels, terrorism, and the complex relationship between the United States and Mexico.
