In the movie "Ronin," set in the post-Cold War era of 1998, the undisclosed contents of a mysterious briefcase become the focal point for various groups with their own nefarious interests. The Irish Republican Army (IRA) seeks to acquire the case for unknown reasons, and they hire a Russian mobster named Gregor (played by Stellan Skarsgård) to help them in their mission. However, Gregor betrays the IRA and decides to sell the case to the highest bidder.

Recognizing the potential danger posed by the sensitive contents falling into the wrong hands, an anonymous individual with connections to intelligence agencies recruits Deirdre (played by Natascha McElhone), an Irish intelligence operative, to assemble a team of skilled operatives to retrieve the briefcase. Deirdre recruits five highly skilled and experienced professionals, known as "ronin," for this mission.

The team consists of Sam (played by Robert De Niro), an American former CIA operative; Vincent (played by Jean Reno), a French veteran mercenary; Gregor (played by Stellan Skarsgård), a German driver and skilled wheelman; Larry (played by Skipp Sudduth), an American surveillance expert; and Spence (played by Sean Bean), a skilled marksman who possesses a questionable reputation within the group.

Initially, the ronin members do not trust each other due to their secretive nature and distinct backgrounds. However, they understand the importance of their mission and begin working together to track down the briefcase. As they embark on their task, they face numerous challenges, including double-crosses, ambushes, and intense car chases.

Along the way, the ronin learn that the briefcase contains a mysterious and valuable metallic cylinder, capable of generating a powerful electromagnetic pulse (EMP). The power to neutralize electrical systems offers significant capabilities, making the briefcase highly desirable to criminal organizations, terrorists, and even governments seeking to use it as a weapon or a bargaining chip.

As the team closes in on recovering the briefcase, they become entangled in a dangerous web of deceit and betrayal. They must navigate their way through a convoluted world of espionage, filled with unexpected alliances and shifting loyalties.

In their relentless pursuit, the ronin expose hidden agendas, face lethal adversities, and ultimately find themselves engaged in a climactic showdown with both the Irish terrorists and the Russian mob. The film culminates in a thrilling and visually striking final confrontation, as the ronin fight to secure the briefcase and prevent potentially catastrophic consequences.

"Ronin" is a stylish and suspenseful thriller that delves into the world of espionage, with its complex characters, intricate plot twists, and expertly choreographed action sequences, ensuring a gripping cinematic experience.
