In the film Humanité, the story revolves around the emotionally numb police detective, Pharaon De Winter, who lives in a small, tranquil village in France. The brutal rape and murder of an 11-year-old girl shakes the entire community, prompting the investigation.

Pharaon, grappling with the lingering pain of his own tragic past, tries to dive deep into the case but struggles to connect emotionally with the people involved. He interrogates various suspects and witnesses, including the victim's family, teachers, and locals, as he slowly pieces together clues hoping to find the truth.

Throughout the investigation, Pharaon encounters different characters who serve as a reflection of the complexity of human emotions. He develops an ambiguous relationship with Domino, a woman who works at a local bakery known for her promiscuity. Their interactions are filled with an underlying tension, hinting at the potential for a romantic connection, as Domino seems to be the only person who can somehow break through Pharaon's emotional barrier.

As Pharaon continues to delve deeper into the case, he becomes increasingly vulnerable, haunted by the horrifying crime and his own inability to feel. The film focuses not only on the search for the perpetrator but also on the exploration of Pharaon's internal journey, highlighting the fragility and complexity of the human psyche.

The film deliberately avoids providing clear-cut answers, leaving certain plot elements open to interpretation. Instead, director Bruno Dumont guides the audience through a poetic and abstract exploration of emotions, drawing attention to the profound impact that traumatic events can have on an individual's ability to connect with the world and find justice.
