Infernal Affairs is a Hong Kong crime thriller film directed by Andrew Lau and Alan Mak. The movie revolves around the parallel lives of two men, Chan Wing Yan (Tony Leung) and Lau Kin Ming (Andy Lau), who find themselves on opposite sides of the law as undercover agents.

As the story unfolds, Chan Wing Yan, known as "Little Yan," is chosen to work undercover as a mole in the local Triad mafia. With his police training and intellect, he successfully rises through the ranks of the criminal organization and becomes a trusted member. On the other hand, Lau Kin Ming, known as "Ming," is a young and ambitious member of the Triad who infiltrates the Hong Kong Police Force to relay information to his mafia boss, Sam (Eric Tsang).

Years pass, and both men's lives become increasingly complicated. Yan struggles with maintaining his true identity while dealing with the guilt and isolation of living a double life. He longs to expose the mole within the police force and redeem himself, but he finds himself trapped and conflicted. Meanwhile, Ming climbs the ranks of the police force and earns the trust of his superiors. However, the constant threat of exposure and the pressure from both his mafia boss and his police comrades begin to weigh heavily on him.

The plot thickens when Yan is assigned the task of uncovering the identity of the mole within the police force. He contacts Inspector Lau Kin Ming, unaware that Ming is, in fact, the mole he is trying to expose. As the two characters become entangled in their pursuit of each other, the tension rises, leading to a gripping cat-and-mouse game.

As the climax approaches, Chen Wing Yan, now an officer in the police force, and Inspector Lau Kin Ming, now a high-ranking member of the criminal underworld, find themselves racing against time to reveal the truth. Each is determined to protect their true identity while exposing the other. The movie builds to a dramatic and intense finale, where their fates intertwine, and the truth is finally revealed.

Infernal Affairs explores themes of identity, loyalty, and the blurred lines between good and evil. Its intricate plot, complex characters, and suspenseful storytelling have made it a widely acclaimed and influential film, being remade into the highly successful American film, "The Departed" directed by Martin Scorsese.
