"The First Lap" is a Korean drama film that revolves around the lives of Su-hyeon and Ji-young, a couple who have been living together for six years. Su-hyeon works as a teacher at a private art institute, while Ji-young is a contract worker at a small network enterprise.

The story takes an unexpected turn when Su-hyeon discovers that Ji-young is late on her period, which hints at a possible pregnancy. This revelation profoundly affects their relationship and prompts them to reevaluate their future together.

In an attempt to escape from the pressures and uncertainties of their lives, the couple decides to visit Ji-young's parents in Incheon for a housewarming party. However, the atmosphere turns unpleasant when Ji-young's mother insists that they get married. This confrontation leaves the couple feeling unsettled and adds further strain to their already complicated situation.

Feeling overwhelmed and in need of clarity, Su-hyeon decides to confront and reconcile with his own estranged family. Their journey continues as they embark on a road trip to Samcheok, a coastal town on the far end of the east coast. This trip not only allows them to physically distance themselves from their problems but also serves as an opportunity for them to reflect on their relationship and the choices they need to make.

Throughout the film, Su-hyeon and Ji-young explore themes of commitment, love, and the societal pressures that come with marriage and family. As they navigate their pasts, present, and potential future together, they must confront their fears, expectations, and ambitions for themselves and each other.

"The First Lap" presents a heartfelt and introspective story that delves into the complexities of modern relationships and the personal growth that comes with facing challenging circumstances.
