In The Big Hit, Melvin Smiley, played by Mark Wahlberg, is a skilled hitman working for a professional assassination group called the Hitmen Inc. However, Melvin is not your typical cold-blooded killer; he is actually quite affable and struggles with the moral implications of his job.

Melvin leads a double life, trying to maintain a facade of normality for his unsuspecting fiancée, Pam, played by Christina Applegate. He goes to great lengths to keep his true profession a secret from her, pretending to have a regular office job. This often leads to comedic and awkward situations as Melvin tries to balance his personal and professional life.

Melvin's colleagues at Hitmen Inc., including Cisco (Lou Diamond Phillips), Crunch (Bokeem Woodbine), and Vince (Antonio Sabato Jr.), are constantly taking advantage of Melvin's kind nature and scamming him out of his rightful share of money earned from their hits. Frustrated with his exploitation, Melvin decides to take a stand and demands a fair cut in their next assignment.

The opportunity for a big payday arises when the gang kidnaps the daughter of Jiro Nishi, a wealthy electronics mogul. Unfortunately, they soon discover that the girl, Keiko Nishi, is actually the goddaughter of Paris, the ruthless crime boss who employs the group. This revelation brings even more trouble and danger to Melvin and his colleagues.

As the situation spirals out of control, Melvin finds himself constantly dodging bullets and trying to keep both Keiko and himself alive. To make matters worse, he still has to navigate his personal life, which includes dealing with his suspicious fiancée, Pam, who begins to suspect that something is amiss.

Throughout the movie, there is a mix of thrilling action sequences, comedic moments, and an exploration of Melvin's internal struggle between being a hitman and wanting a normal life. The Big Hit ultimately showcases Melvin's journey to extricate himself from the dangerous world he finds himself in, while also trying to find a way to reconcile with Pam and build a better future.
