"Car Wash" follows a typical day at Sully Boyar's Car Wash, located in the bustling and diverse Los Angeles ghetto. The film primarily focuses on a close-knit group of employees who all have their own unique personalities and dreams.

The crew includes the suave and flirtatious Irwin, who is constantly on the lookout for attractive women; the outspoken, hot-tempered Lindy, who speaks her mind without hesitation; and the cheerful and optimistic Duane, who dreams of becoming a songwriter.

Throughout the day, they encounter a wide range of eccentric customers, each with their own quirks and stories. These customers include a smooth-talking preacher who tries to convert everyone, a wacky and reckless cab driver who causes chaos on the premises, and an ex-convict who plans to rob the car wash.

As the day progresses, various events unfold, entwining the lives of the employees and customers. Amidst the chaos, some employees find romance, such as Duane, who falls for a beautiful woman named Mona. However, most of the employees are simply focused on navigating their way through the challenges and demands of their job, trying to make it through another shift.

As the employees work diligently, they continuously banter with each other, cracking politically incorrect jokes and engaging in playful arguments. They find solace in the constant soundtrack of disco and funk music, which sets the energetic and lively tone of the film.

In the climax of the film, the ex-convict attempts to rob the car wash, leading to a chaotic confrontation. The employees come together to stop him, demonstrating their loyalty and camaraderie.

In the end, despite the ups and downs of their day, the employees of Sully Boyar's Car Wash reflect on their experiences, finding joy and fulfillment in the moments of connection, friendship, and the satisfaction of a hard day's work.
