Patrick Bateman, the Wall Street investment banker, leads a double life. By day, he works in a prestigious firm and fits the typical mold of a successful yuppie in the 1980s. However, behind closed doors, Bateman's mind becomes a twisted abyss of sadistic and psychopathic behavior.

As the film progresses, Bateman's rapacious appetite for murder and violence begins to consume him. He becomes fixated on eliminating those who cross his path, driven by his overwhelming desire for control and power. His victims range from homeless people to prostitutes, colleagues, and even his lover.

While trying to maintain his façade of sanity and normality, Bateman becomes increasingly isolated and detached from reality. His obsession with appearance extends beyond his calculated grooming routine and fashionable wardrobe; he engages in clandestine acts of brutality, using increasingly intricate methods to dispose of his victims. Yet, in a bizarre twist, he discovers that his crimes often go unnoticed or are mistaken for someone else's doing, highlighting the superficiality and indifference of the society he inhabits.

Bateman's descent into madness is further exacerbated by the constant pressure to outdo his peers in every aspect of his life. His competitive nature extends to maintaining a perfect physique, striving for the most exquisite reservations at high-end restaurants, and acquiring the most expensive possessions. However, all of these materialistic pursuits do little to satiate his underlying emptiness and desire for control.

As the film reaches its climax, Bateman spirals further into his delusions, finding himself at odds with reality. The line between his vivid fantasies and actual events becomes blurred, leaving the audience questioning what is genuinely happening and what lies only in his mind.

American Psycho delves into themes of alienation, materialism, and the dark underbelly of society. It explores the dehumanizing effects of a cutthroat corporate world and the relentless pursuit of wealth and success. With mesmerizing performances and a haunting depiction of a fractured psyche, the movie serves as a disturbing portrayal of a man consumed by his own monstrous desires.
