"The Good Shepherd" is a 2006 spy film directed by Robert De Niro. The movie stars Matt Damon as Edward Wilson, along with an ensemble cast including Angelina Jolie, Alec Baldwin, and Robert De Niro himself.

The film follows Edward Wilson from his time as a distinguished student at Yale University in the late 1930s, where he becomes a member of the secretive Skull and Bones Society. As a bright and ambitious young man, Wilson is recruited by a high-ranking member of the fraternity, Arch Cummings (played by Billy Crudup), to join the newly established Office of Strategic Services (OSS) during World War II.

Edward quickly proves his worth to the OSS, becoming a skilled intelligence officer with a natural talent for code-breaking and analysis. He rises through the ranks and becomes one of the agency's most trusted operatives. However, his dedication to his work starts to take a toll on his personal life.

While carrying out his duties for the OSS, Edward becomes estranged from his wife Margaret (played by Angelina Jolie) and their young son. He is consumed by secrecy and the demands of his job, which often puts him in morally compromising situations. As he becomes more deeply involved with the spy world, he discovers that trust is a luxury rarely found in his line of work.

The film alternates between Edward's present-day life as the head of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in the 1960s and flashbacks to crucial moments in his past. These flashbacks reveal Edward's involvement in the founding of the CIA, as well as his complicated relationships with his colleagues, friends, and enemies.

Throughout the movie, Edward finds himself entangled in a complex web of espionage, counterintelligence, and double-crosses. He becomes suspicious of a mole within the agency and sets out to uncover the truth, risking not only his professional reputation but also his personal safety.

"The Good Shepherd" delves into the sacrifices and betrayals that Edward Wilson endures throughout his career as a spy. It explores the treacherous nature of the intelligence world, where loyalty and duplicity are constantly in conflict. Ultimately, Edward's pursuit of truth and his commitment to serving his country lead him down a path of isolation and personal sacrifice, blurring the line between duty and morality.
