Frances, played by Diane Lane, is a successful book editor in San Francisco. Her life takes a drastic turn when she discovers that her husband has been cheating on her. Devastated by the news and facing a difficult divorce, Frances is encouraged by her friends to take a break and escape to Italy.

Reluctantly, Frances agrees to join a group tour of Tuscany, hoping to find solace and rediscover herself amidst the beautiful Italian countryside. While on the tour, they visit various places, and one day they stop at a dilapidated villa called Bramasole.

Captivated by the charm and potential of the villa, Frances impulsively decides to buy it, despite her friends' warnings about the immense responsibilities that come with it. This spontaneous decision marks the beginning of her journey to rebuild not only the villa but also her own life.

As Frances slowly restores Bramasole, she encounters a colorful array of local characters who become her friends and help her along the way. There's the kind-hearted real estate agent, Signor Martini, the romantic and worldly tree specialist, Katherine, and Patti, an eccentric and joyful British expatriate.

Frances also befriends a Polish immigrant, Zbigniew, who works as a contractor on her property. They develop a sweet friendship, and Zbigniew introduces her to his pregnant partner, who becomes an important source of support and guidance for Frances.

While embracing the challenges of renovating the villa, Frances gradually transforms her sorrow and disappointment into love and joy. She discovers hidden talents, such as gardening, and finds peace and contentment in the Tuscan way of life.

Throughout her journey, Frances experiences unexpected twists and turns that enlighten her and showcase the resilience of the human spirit. She learns to let go of her past, open herself up to new possibilities, and embrace the present moment with gratitude.

In the process, Frances also opens her heart to love again. She develops a deep connection with Marcello, a handsome and charming Italian man who runs a local restaurant. Their relationship adds a touch of romance and passion to Frances' life, helping her fully embrace her newfound happiness.

"Under the Tuscan Sun" depicts Frances' transformation from a broken woman to someone who has rebuilt her life and found a sense of belonging in a picturesque corner of Italy. The movie beautifully captures the power of resilience, friendship, and the ability to create a new beginning even in the face of adversity.
