"Benedetta" is a historical drama film directed by Paul Verhoeven, based on the book "Immodest Acts: The Life of a Lesbian Nun in Renaissance Italy" by Judith C. Brown. Set in 17th-century Italy, the story revolves around the life of the title character, Sister Benedetta Carlini.
The film begins with Benedetta (Virginie Efira) joining the Convent of Sant'Orsola at a young age. She soon develops a reputation as a visionary, claimed to receive divine visions and speak in tongues.
