"Enemy of the State" is a 1998 action thriller directed by Tony Scott. The film follows the story of Robert Clayton Dean (played by Will Smith), a successful lawyer working in Washington, D.C. After unknowingly receiving a videotape showing the murder of a congressman by corrupt National Security Agency (NSA) official Thomas Brian Reynolds (played by Jon Voight), Dean becomes entangled in a dangerous conspiracy.

When the videographer, a former NSA technician named Daniel Zavitz (played by Jason Lee), slips the incriminating tape into Dean's shopping bag while being pursued by Reynolds' team, Dean's life takes an unexpected turn. Unaware of the tape's content, Dean's surprise and confusion escalates as he becomes the target of relentless surveillance and attacks by Reynolds' assassins.

Dean seeks help from his old college friend, a former intelligence expert named Brill (played by Gene Hackman). Brill, living as a recluse due to his own knowledge of the NSA's illegal activities, reluctantly agrees to assist Dean in uncovering the truth behind the tape and protecting his life.

As they try to unravel the conspiracy, Dean and Brill discover the vast extent of the NSA's invasive surveillance capabilities. Through wiretapping, satellite tracking, and other high-tech methods, the Agency has unparalleled access to personal information, jeopardizing the privacy and security of ordinary citizens.

Driven by their desire to expose the truth, Dean and Brill navigate a dangerous world where they are constantly pursued, not only by Reynolds and his assassins but also by other government agencies unwilling to let the truth be revealed. They must outsmart and outrun their pursuers while staying one step ahead to protect themselves and uncover the evidence needed to bring Reynolds and the NSA to justice.

Throughout the film, Dean's life is turned upside down as he becomes a fugitive, estranged from his family, and constantly on the run. The story is filled with high-intensity chase scenes, intense suspense, and technological espionage, highlighting the themes of government surveillance, individual privacy, and the abuse of power.

"Enemy of the State" is a thrilling ride as Dean and Brill fight to clear Dean's name and expose the conspiracy, putting their lives on the line in a battle against a powerful enemy.
